A Guide To Hotels In The Dominican Republic
There are some stunning resorts and hotels in the Dominican Republic just waiting to be enjoyed. From the beaches of Bavaro to the resorts of La Romana, the Dom Rep might be a nine hour flight from the UK, but with year round warm weather, it's perfect for a winter sun holiday.
Getting To, From And Around The Dom Rep
Direct flights can take between 9-10 hours with airlines like TUI and British Airways, while other airlines like United and American Airlines offer flights via the USA. Many of the hotels are resort-style and self contained meaning this is the perfect destination to fly and flop, simply enjoying a cocktail by the pool or on the beach. But there are also some great excursions to enjoy and discover more about the wonderful country.
Where To Stay
There are two main resort areas on the island, Punta Cana/Bavaro and La Romana. Punta Cana is where you will find the bulk of the larger resorts, with top brands like RIU Hotels, Dreams and Bahia Principe Hotels. And there's different types of accommodation too, from self catering apartments to luxury five star complexes.
Things To Do
The pools and warm weather are what everyone come here for but there is much more to this place than that. The beaches here are simply stunning, everything you need for those Instagram-worthy photos, and you shouldn't just stick to the beach outside your hotel either. There are also plenty of watersports to enjoy, or at least try your hand at, such as snorkelling and scuba diving on Bavaro's coral reef.
Budget Friendly Hotels
You do have the option of booking your flight and hotel separately but we always recommend booking an ABTA or ATOL protected package for your financial peace of mind. There are some great budget friendly self catering options and homes through the likes of Airbnb but you've also got some great, and cheap all inclusive hotels too. Take a look at places like the Riu Naiboa and her sister property the Riu Bambu, both in Bavaro, or if you prefer to be on the southern coast, take a look at the Whala! Bayahibe, all three of which can be booked from under £900 per person.
