The popular holiday resort of Golf del Sur has become more and more popular for holidays and expats looking to retire in the sunshine meaning there is a whole host of accommodation in the area. There are a number of hotels to try out, however, with many European's buying apartments as a second home, there's a great choice of self catering apartments in the area too.
Nightlife in the Golf del Sur isn't anywhere near as lively as what you might find in areas like Los Cristianos and Las Americas, however, you're likely to find the more clubby places in the Golf are in the hotel bars. Fear not though. Las Americas is just a 15 minute taxi ride away if you do want to head out to a club or a bit of a wilder night.
There are still a number of great restaurants in Golf del Sur that open late, ranging from local Spanish tapas to mixed cuisine including Japanese and Thai. Be sure to try some of the local specialities, including locally sourced fish and Canarian potatoes.
Getting To Golf Del Sur
One of the great reasons to stay in the Golf del Sur is how close it is to the airport. Once you've landed, you can jump in a taxi and be at your hotel or apartment in just 10-15 minutes, and if you're part of an organised coach transfer, you'll be one of the first stops.
Taxis to the area cost around €10-15 each way including tip and can be picked up from outside the arrivals area of the airport. Car hire in Tenerife can start from as little as €9 per day and is a great way to have some freedom in case you want to get out and explore other areas of Tenerife.
Worried about the aircraft noise? Fear not, while the planes do fly over Amarilla Golf and the Golf del Sur as they come into land, Tenerife airport isn't like many other holiday airports. Late night flights are not allowed, so you'll find that you'll still be able to get a good night's sleep.
For those really on a budget, there is a bus service that goes from Tenerife South Airport to the area, including Amarilla Golf and San Blas. Tickets are just a couple of Euros, however, it is worth leaving plenty of time when heading back to the airport for your flight, as the buses don't run too often. Tour Operators
All the big tour operators and travel companies offer holidays to Golf del Sur. TUI and Jet2holidays will package up your flight and hotel with airport transfers and check-in luggage while others like On The Beach and loveholidays, you'll need to add those extras on. Getting To & From Las Americas
Even if you're staying in "The Golf" there's a good chance you might want to head over to Playa de las Americas or Costa Adeje. A taxi from Golf del Sur to Playa de Las Americas will take around 15-20 minutes while the local bus service does a loop of Golf del Sur, past some of the key areas like the Fantasia hotel and close to San Blas, before heading over to Los Cristianos. From there, you can either walk or jump on another bus into Las Americas or Costa Adeje.

The Golf del Sur is one of Tenerife's quieter resorts but it does still offer a range of bars and restaurants, and activities. Of course, if you are hiring a car, you've got the whole of Tenerife that can be explored, but here are our top things to do in the Golf del Sur:
Excursions
The Submarine Safari is very popular excursion for those visiting the Golf, and even those who are staying elsewhere. 18.5m long submarine can reach a maximum depth of 60m, however, the excursions only really go to a depth of about 25-30m. It's an easy walk down to San Miguel Marina, however, if you are staying in other areas, a coach transfer is included in the price of your ticket. Ticket prices start from €45 for adults and €27.20 for children if booked online and in advance. The Submarine Safari in Tenerife is a sure hit with kids too.
Los Abrigos
Dinner in Los Abrigos, a quieter marina, is a lovely way to spend the evening. Stroll along the rocky coastline and pick one of the numerous restaurants that line the promenade. Be sure to try a freshly cuaght fish from the sea that day, combined with the famous Canarian Potatoes.
Golf
Popular with golfers, the two golf clubs are also another favourite way to spend the day. With views one way of the ocean and views the other way of stunning Mt Teide, the two golf courses (Amarilla Golf and Golf del Sur), are popular with golf fanatics. And even if you're not, a round of pitch and putt is still fun.
Tejita Beach & El Medano
Playa de la Tejita, located a little further along the coast, is this areas popular sandy beach. While most beaches in Golf del Sur are pebble or rocky, Playa de la Tejita is sandy, under the watchful eye of the Red Rock.
Siam Park
You cannot leave Tenerife without a visit to Siam Park Water Park, the world's number one water park. Book your tickets in advance and you can also jump on the shuttle bus which runs from Golf del Sur to Siam Park.
Where To Stay In Golf Del Sur
Golf del Sur has become very popular as a holiday home destination so there is a good range of apartments in the area that are rented as holiday accommodation for when the owners aren't there. Try the likes of AirBnb or even ask your family and friends if they know of anyone with an apartment. You might be surprised.
If it's a hotel you'd rather though, there are also a number to choose from, ranging from small B&Bs to the luxury Barcelo Tenerife Resort, close to San Blas shopping centre which has a range of restaurants and bars with live music. Hotels like the Vincci Tenerife Golf and the Santa Barbara Golf and Ocean Club also offer sea view rooms. The large, five star, all inclusive resort of Fantasia Bahia Principe is a family friendly resort with a magical castle, light show and plenty for the kids to do. Pretty much all the hotels here have at least one outdoor pool, however, most swimming pools are not heated, so it can get a little chilly in winter!
Amarilla Golf
A baranco splits the Golf del Sur with Amarilla Golf to the left. The majority of accommodation in Amarilla Golf is private or Airbnb apartments, however, hotel is being built in the area. If you would rather stay in this area, take a look a properties on Booking. There is the odd restaurant or two but it is much quieter.
Weather
Unlike mainland Spain, Tenerife enjoys year-round warm weather which is why so many Brits flock here for winter. The weather in Golf del Sur is much like the other holiday resorts in the south of the island like Costa del Silencio and Los Cristianos, which is sunny and warm. Tenerife has its own micro-climate and you'll find the weather in the north can be cloudier and colder, while the south is warmer.
In the summer months of June, July and August, the temperatures can get well into the 30s which is when you'll need that pool. In winter, you can still get some fabulous sunshine and warm sunny days in December, January and February but you have more chance of cloud and rain than other times of the year.
