A Guide To Hotels In East London

Once an area known for poverty and disease, East London has become a mecca for the cool and quirky. The streets of Shoreditch are now home to tech companies and alternative bars, while Whitechapel's famous Brick Lane is full to the brim or Indian restaurants.

Further out to the east and you'll find Stratford, home to the Olympic Stadium, Westfield Shopping Centre and the new International Quarter, aimed at bringing new business to the UK and existing businesses to the East End.

Head out further still and you'll be venturing into suburbs like Leyton and Wanstead, perfect for parking up and taking the tube into the city centre.

Getting To, From & Around East London

As with all of London, East London is well connected, so wherever you stay, exploring London is easy.

Stratford International offers train services out to East Anglia and the likes of Norwich, Southend-on-Sea and Chelmsford, while it's Underground and Docklands Light Rail services connect it with central London, London City Airport and the O2, to name just a few places.

Further into the city and you'll be able to access areas like Shoreditch and Whitechapel from Liverpool Street station. If it's the City you are after, areas like Tower Bridge (and the Tower of London), can be reached by the Tower Hill Underground line or Fenchurch Street station.

Things To Do In East London

East London is an absolute hive of activity both during the week and at weekends.

Explore Spitalfield's market to grab a bargain deal or head to Stratford's Westfield shopping centre for a whole heap of the mainstream stores. Enjoy a chilled out rooftop cinema club one Friday night or hit one of Shoreditch's many trendy bars and clubs.

One area to enjoy particularly in the summertime is the area around St Katherine's Docks and the Tower of London. Although quite the tourist attraction, exploring the secrets of the Crown Jewels before enjoying a coffee while you watch the world go by.

Where To Stay In East London

One of the more unusual hotels in East London actually floats alongside the Excel Exhibition Centre in the Docks near Custom House DLR station. The Sunborn, a 142 metre long luxury super yacht is home to some 136 rooms with onboard restaurant, tablet computers and premium bedding. Enjoy superb service in luxury surroundings and still have great access to central London.

Or perhaps you'd prefer the trendy Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell, a Gold Award winner from Green Tourism. This eco-friendly hotel offers 59 individually designed rooms so no two stays are the same. Rooms with everything you'll need, including Bose Bluetooth speakers, mist-free bathroom mirrors and even hot water bottles, will ensure your stay at this hip hotel is more than comfortable.
