Description
The Gran Melia Palacio de Isora Resort & Spa hotel is a stunning five star resort, located in Alcala, a quieter area of Tenerife's western coastline. Part of the Melia hotels chain and enjoying a seriously impressive 260 metre long salt water swimming pool with infinity views, the hotel was also known as the Sensatori Tenerife Hotel by TUI. It's easy to see why families come back and stay time and time again, made clear by the positive reviews left on the likes of TripAdvisor too. And when we stayed, we absolutely loved it.
There are over 500 rooms here and being out of the way a bit, many groups book onto the full board dining option, however, there are still some great restaurants to try out in the local area. Children are well catered for here with a comprehensive kids' club and programme with numerous exciting activities taking place throughout the day.
There's even the Red Level section, an adults only part of the complex with it's own entrance, pool, restaurants and sunbathing area.
Rooms
There are a number of different room types available at the Gran Melia Tenerife, ranging from family rooms with sofa bed, to luxurious sea view suites and master suites with hot tubs in the adults only Red Level area. Room service is available throughout the hotel at an additional cost.

Latest Holiday Deals
Booking a package holiday is going to be the better way to organise your getaway. Brands like Jet2holidays, TUI, easyJet Holidays, British Airways Holidays and Love Holidays all offer ATOL protected package holidays ensuring you are financially protected, while also allowing you to save money. Flight and hotel booked together can often be cheaper, and many companies include things like luggage allowance and seat selection.
When booking a trip with TUI and Jet2, you may also find that prices can be a little higher, but this is often because things like check-in luggage and airport transfers in Tenerife are already including within the package price. Free child places aren't usually available here but keep checking as you never know when they might open some up. Being a five star luxury resort, package holidays can be a little higher than other places, so if you're desperate to stay but need some extra time, you can often pay a low deposit and make monthly payments by direct debit to pay of the remaining balance.
The resort is popular both with UK holidaymakers and visitors from Europe so it's probably best holding out for any last minute deals here as it can get booked up very quickly. Discount codes are sometimes available on packages when you book with the likes of TUI and Jet2holidays. Click the link below to see what's available.
Hotel Only
You can also book your stay as hotel only through websites like Booking.com, Hotels.com or Expedia, allowing you to book your flights separately. This can also be a good twin centre option, staying in somewhere like lively Las Americas or Costa Adeje for a few days before heading up the coast to a more more tranquil setting.
Always make sure to check the latest travel advice on the United Kingdom Foreign & Commonwealth Development Office on travel to Tenerife, Spain. And it's recommended to book an ABTA or ATOL protected holiday for extra financial protection (along with your own comprehensive travel insurance).

During the day the kids' club will keep the little ones entertained, but when evening comes around, the plaza lights up with life and sound, with live music and shows, plus a disco through to the small hours.
Kids' Club
Children and families are really well catered for here with the hotel's mini club for children between the ages of 5 and 12 years old offering a whole host of activities and fun, from outdoor games to arts and crafts, and even a mini disco in the evening. There's also a children's pool with mini slides, a baby club and creche for the small ones with a sleeping area, baby-changing facilities and sensory activities, and a play area too.
Sports & Activities
There are a range of sports and activities on offer here, from tennis courts to yoga and aqua aerobics. There's also a good daytime entertainment and activities programme too. If you fancy something a little more adventurous, book on to an exciting tour or excursion in Tenerife, ranging from scuba diving to sea kayaking with dolphins.
Weddings
Many couples choose to have their wedding at the Palacio de Isora. There are several different parts of the hotels that couples can choose to share their nuptials, with the back drop of the ocean. Set wedding packages are available but the team can help to tailor your special day.
Food & Drink
There are six restaurants on the property, five a la carte with one buffet style for the main half board, full board and all inclusive options. 24 hour room service is also available in case you fancy enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner from your terrace or balcony.
Drinks Package
Rather than worry about adding on a drinks package, sometimes it can be better to go all inclusive so you don't have to worry about spending extra.
All Inclusive
All inclusive is now available at the hotel, including meals at the Pangea buffet restaurant including soft drinks and some alcohol. Additional charges may apply to dine at the a la carte restaurants as part of your package.
Restaurants
There are six restaurants in total at the resort:
Pangea - Open for breakfast and dinner, Pangea Food Market is the hotel's international buffet style restaurant with a variety of stations to delight the senses.
Club Ocean - Placed centre stage in the plaza, Club Ocean serves Italian cuisine for evening meals.
Nami - The Japanese themed restaurant, Nami, opens for dinner and offers a unique experience of teppanyaki tables and show cooking. Great for a special occasion.
DUO - Open five days a week for dinner, DUO serves a mix of delish creative dishes.
Oasis Pool Grille - The Oasis Restaurant by the main pool has a tasty menu of fresh seafood for lunch and dinners.
Bars
The Palacio de Isora Hotel has seven bars, mainly dotted around the plaza, but there's also a pool bar and the Areia Beach Bar. Sunset drinks should definitely be enjoyed at the Club Ocean bar, the perfect place to sit back and relax with a cocktail after a hard day by the pool. As the nights roll around, there are a couple of bars and the disco to also enjoy.
Jazz Bar
The Jazz Bar is one of the popular spots to enjoy a relaxed cocktail in the evening after dinner, and hosts live music most evenings a week.
Things To Do
The area of Alcala is one of Tenerife's quieter areas, and as such a big, family friendly resort, you'll want to stay in the hotel and enjoy as many of the facilities as you can during your stay. From enjoying a game on the tennis court to taking a break from the sunshine at the snack bar, there's plenty to do, but it's still great to get out and discover the local area. There are a number of lovely restaurants in the local area, as well as walk along the coast. There's even a scuba diving company close by, and there is, of course, the stunning scenery of Los Gigantes.
Restaurants Nearby
The hotel has some incredible a la carte restaurants to enjoy, but there are some great restaurants nearby to enjoy too. The seaside eateries can be a little pricer but if you head to the main square in Alcala there are some cheaper places too. If you love seafood, for something really special, try Muelle Viejo, particularly lovely for a bite to eat at lunchtime.
Beach
There is a small, black sand beach close by with umbrellas and sun loungers which can be hired, and is a nice break away from the main pool for a quick drip in the sea, and perfect for families. There's also a natural swimming pool just in front of the resort, which, in the summer time and when the weather conditions are right, is a lovely experience to enjoy.
Excursions
The hotel can help you organise excursions while you're on holiday but if there's something specific you want to see or do, it's a great idea to book before you travel to avoid disappointment. Activities like scuba diving can be organised locally, with the chance to spot turtles, or you may prefer a day out at Siam Park for a bit of waterpark fun.
Nightlife
This is a much quieter area of Tenerife so there isn't much in the way of nightlife outside the hotel apart from the odd local bar and restaurant. If you fancy a dance, the hotel's disco is well suited, although the drive to Costa Adeje is about a 15-20 minute drive if you want a bit more nightlife.

Getting Here
The drive from Tenerife South Airport can take up to 30 minutes, depending on your stops along the way. Car hire may be a good option if you're keen to explore the largest of the Canary Islands, giving you the freedom to head to other areas like Playa de las Americas, Puerto de la Cruz or up to Mount Teide National Park.
