Getting To, From And Around Formentera
Airlines & Tour Operators
There are several airlines flying from the UK to Formentera, being British Airways, Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2 and TUI, however, they aren't every day, so you may have to play around with dates, especially from regional airports like Edinburgh, Belfast or Birmingham, to get the most suitable options. As a result all the big ABTA and ATOL protected tour operators like TUI, Jet2holidays, loveholidays and On The Beach can package up flights and accommodation to suit.
Public Transport
There are two main bus services which increase during the summer months to help transport tourists around. They aren't always that frequent though, so if you're in a rush, you might be better off taking a taxi.
Airport Transfers
By far one of the best ways to get from Formentera airport to your hotel is with a pre-booked airport transfer. The cheapest holidays don't often include things like coach transfers so check when you book to see what is and isn't included.
Car Hire
A hire car is a great way to get around at your own pace and discover places like Cala Saona Beach or Sant Francesc Xavier (also known as San Francisco Javier), which is the main town on the island, often considered Formentera's capital.
Ferries To Nearby Islands
The ferry to Ibiza only takes around 30 minutes, running from the Port of Formentera near La Savina, to Ibiza Port (Port d'Eivissa). There are both car ferries and foot ferries in operation, so make sure you book the right one. A day trip to Ibiza is a great option, and similarly, if you're on holiday in Ibiza, a day trip to Formentera can be a lovely way to spend a day outside of your hotel.
Things To Do In Formentera
Boat Trips
Boat trips are a fantastic way to spend a day on holiday here. From family friendly day trips to go dolphin watching, to more boozy afternoon party boats for younger groups, like nearby Ibiza, there's a range of offer. Some boats will sail and drop anchor by one of the lovely beaches on the island, or visit Platja de S'Alga on S'Espalmador.
Platja de Ses Illetes
One of the most iconic things about Formentera is Illetes Beach, one of the best sandy beaches here, and no holiday to Formentera is complete without visiting it. Located in the very north of the island, this is the place to capture that all important Instagram snap or TikTok video. If the unsual landscape doesn't get you, the crystal clear, turquoise water certainly will.
Hiring A Bike
While it's easier to get around by car, one of the best ways to explore Formentera is by bike. Not only is it a good bit of excerise to burn off some of those holiday pounds, it's perfect for seeing more of the island. One route in particular is around Estany Prudent, a picturesque lake which is great for wildlife and bird watching, and enjoying the scenery.

Es Pujols
While still small compared to some of the resorts on neighbouring Ibiza, the town of Es Pujols is perhaps considered the most lively part of the island for tourist. Here you'll find hotels and self catering apartments, along with a few shops, bars and restaurants. The sandy beach at Platja des Pujols is also a popular spot for holidaymakers.
