BEST BEGINNER RESORTS

The Best Ski Resorts for Beginners

Skiing for the first time should be as enjoyable as it is exhilarating. But with so many resorts to choose from, it's hard to work out which are the best ski resorts for beginners, and which you should stay well clear of. So we've hand picked some of our favourite beginner resorts that are perfect if you're relatively new to skiing. These resorts have been carefully chosen for their beginner-friendly slopes, excellent ski schools, off-piste activities, and a welcoming atmosphere that will have you mastering the basics in no time. Here are the best beginner ski resorts we think you'll love.

1

Levi, Lapland, Finland

Great for families with lots of off-piste activities

Chairlift in Levi, Finland

Levi, Finland

Finland, and more specifically Levi, might be on your radar for a Lapland holiday, but probably isn't the first place you think of for a ski holiday. However, it can be an excellent option for beginners and family ski holidays. Direct flights from the UK to Kittila (nearest airport to Levi) aren't as frequent as other destinations, but having such a high lattitude means some excellent snow conditions for ski lessons, as well as lots of off-piste activities like snowshoeing, dog sledding, snow mobile rides and visiting the reindeer.

Why We Love It: Levi has an absolutely magical feel about it that is perfect for families.

2

Les Arcs, Paradiski, France

Huge ski area with lots of accommodation options

Skiing in Peisey Vallandry in Les Arcs

Les Arcs, Savoie, French Alps

Les Arcs, in the French Alps, is actually made up of several small towns and ski areas which connect together to make one incredible ski resort for all abilities. Accommodation options vary from budget friendly self catering apartments in Bourg St Maurice to half board hotels in Arc 2000, including lots of ski-in, ski-out options. There are lots of beginner areas with about 140 easy runs too. It's a option for ski holidays in France.

Why We Love It: A big area to explore with lots of easy runs for beginner skiers

3

La Plagne, Paradiski, France

Big resort area with a variety of easy runs and plenty to do off-piste

La Plagne Ski Resort

La Plagne, Savoie, French Alps

Just across the mountains from Les Arcs you'll find La Plagne, another great ski resort for beginner skiers. There are a number of villages in the area with plenty of runs for beginners and intermediate skiers, as well as the ski schools for first-timers. You've got plenty of après-ski options, as well as off-piste activities like ziplining and bobsleigh. You can get a lift pass that also gets you over to Les Arcs.

4

Obergurgl, Ötztal, Austria

High resort with lots of easy ski runs and amazing views

Ski resort of Obergurgl in Austria

Not only are there lots of easy runs and a ski school, but being one of the highest areas in the Austrian Alps, beginners get to enjoy amazing views too. One of the main easy runs into Obergurgl is floodlit once a week, so you can even try out night skiing. Plus there's activities like ice-skating, and you've got to head up to Top Mountain Star. At over 3,000m the views from here are absolutely incredible.
