While there are only two airlines that fly direct from the UK to this beautiful Italian city, if that doesn't suit, there are alternatives that might be better. Flights from the UK to Florence in Italy can cost as little as £67 per person for a return ticket. Usually these are with low cost airline Vueling from Gatwick and will exclude luggage and seat selection, so expect to pay extra for that. If you need to travel from another UK airport, or at different times, your alternative would be to fly direct into Pisa which is just an hour from Florence and may provide more convenience.

Florence Airport
Also known as Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci, Florence airport is located just to the north-west of the city and there are several ways you can travel into the city centre. The tram service travels into the very heart of the city, taking about 20 minutes, to Via Alamanni which is next to Santa Maria Novella train station, the main train station in the city. There is usually a tram every 7-18 minutes between 5am and midnight.
Alternatively you can take the bus which also takes around 20 minutes and goes into the city centre. The other option is by private taxi which can be picked up outside the airport terminal. The journey will take between 15-20 minutes depending on traffic and will cost between &eur;25-30 each way.
Airlines Flying To Florence
At the time of writing, there are just two airlines which offer direct flights from the UK to Florence, which are British Airways from London City Airport (LCY) and Vueling from London Gatwick (LGW). While you could fly indirect with a stopover, if the direct flights aren't convenient, you may be better off to fly into Pisa Airport, where airlines like Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2 fly into and takes about 50 minutes by train to travel from Pisa Airport to Florence city centre.
