Getting To, From & Around Faro

Holidays to Faro are such a popular option for Brits for many reasons, one of which is the ease of getting to the Algarve. Flights take less than 3 hours from the UK with options from across the UK, including London, as well as regional options like Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Belfast and Bristol. It's usually the best option to book your flight and hotel together as a city break package that's ABTA and ATOL protected, like with Jet2CityBreaks or TUI. However, if you're wanting to fly with Ryanair, city breaks can be a little more difficult to package, and you might have to book your Ryanair flights and your accommodation separately through companies like Booking.com, Expedia or Airbnb.

Getting Into The City

When landing at Faro International Airport, reaching the city centre is fairly straightforward. The airport is conveniently located just a short distance away, and several transportation options are available. Taxis, airport shuttles, and car rentals provide flexibility for travellers, ensuring a smooth journey from the airport to the heart of Faro. The journey is quick, allowing you to dive into the city's offerings without delay. Although it will take about 90 mins, it's even possible to walk from the airport to the city.

Getting Around

Faro's compact size makes it easily navigable, with various transportation options to explore the city and its surroundings. The local bus system connects key points in Faro and neighbouring areas, providing a budget-friendly means of transportation. Additionally, bicycles are available for rent, allowing you to pedal along the scenic coastal paths and explore the city at your own pace.

Faro On Foot

Faro's charm lies in its pedestrian-friendly layout, making walking an ideal way to soak in the city's atmosphere. Wander through the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, where historic architecture, charming squares, and local markets await. Walking along the city walls provides panoramic views of the coast, inviting you to revel in the coastal beauty that surrounds Faro.

When To Go

Faro enjoys a Mediterranean climate, making it a year-round destination. For optimal weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November). Summer (June to August) is the peak tourist season, offering sun-soaked days perfect for beach lovers. To experience the city's cultural events and festivals, plan your visit during local celebrations, such as the Faro International Motorcycle Rally in July. If you're thinking about sunny city breaks, you should definitely consider Faro.
